Karakoram peaks
First Travelife-Certified Operator in Pakistan

Travel that leaves the mountains stronger.

Beyond The Valley is the first tour company in Pakistan to achieve Travelife sustainability certification, independently audited, GSTC-aligned, and measured every season.

Our Pillars

Six commitments we hold ourselves to.

Leave No Trace Camps

Camps are pitched on durable ground, kitchens run on kerosene and LPG rather than local firewood, and every gram of waste, including human waste, is carried back out of the valley.

Local First, Always

Guides, porters, cooks, drivers and suppliers are hired from the valleys we travel through, so the value of each journey stays inside the community that hosts it.

Plastic-Free Supply Chain

Refill stations and purification replace bottled water, food is bought in bulk and decanted into reusable containers, and disposables are designed out of the trip before it starts.

Trail & Glacier Clean-Ups

Our field teams run seasonal clean-ups on the Baltoro, Nangma, Hushe and Thallay approaches, removing legacy litter left by previous expeditions.

Training & Certification

Staff receive continuous training in wilderness first aid, high-altitude safety and sustainability practice, with our Travelife coordinator reviewing performance each season.

Fair Work Standards

Written contracts, regulated loads, paid overtime, medical insurance and proper mountain clothing and shelter for every porter and crew member on every departure.

Founder's Message
"Beyond The Valley was founded to protect fragile ecosystems, empower local communities and promote sustainable tourism in Pakistan. Becoming the first tour company in Pakistan to achieve Travelife sustainability certification was only the beginning, our progress is visible at community level, through greater awareness, stronger local participation and growing opportunities for small businesses, including women-led initiatives."

Our Impact Principles

Five commitments that guide every decision.

Not slogans. Each principle is measured every season and published in our annual impact report.

01

We create value for local communities

154 porters, 64 guides, 22 cooks and 18 hotel and 23 restaurant partners across the Karakoram share directly in the value of every trip we run.

02

We promote sustainable and responsible tourism

As Pakistan's first Travelife-certified operator, we follow GSTC criteria across every itinerary, and worked with 8 stakeholders and 2 universities in 2025 alone.

03

We invest in people and capacity building

60 porters and support staff and 10 guides completed structured training in 2025, alongside six dedicated vendor trainings for our hotel, restaurant and transport partners.

04

Empowering women through tourism

We supported and introduced the first female adventure guide in Pakistan, now work with 2 female village guides, 5 female-owned restaurants and 4 women-led cultural experiences, with roughly 40% women in our office and over 60% female clients.

05

We monitor, evaluate and grow sustainably

Every season's results are measured against our sustainability checklist and published in this Annual Impact Report, 2025 is our latest, with a new edition every year.

In the Field

Our policy, translated into daily practice.

A policy only matters if the crew on the glacier follows it. These are the standing operating procedures every Beyond The Valley trip is run to, briefed before departure, enforced on the trail, reviewed after every group.

  1. 01

    Before departure

Group sizes are capped, permits and porter loads are confirmed, and every guest receives a responsible-travel briefing covering waste, water, wildlife and cultural etiquette.

  2. 02

    On the trail

We walk single file on established paths to prevent widening and erosion, avoid fragile meadows and glacial moraine shortcuts, and leave flora, fauna and archaeology untouched.

  3. 03

    In camp

Camps are sited away from water sources, cooking runs on imported fuel, toilet tents with dug pits or carry-out systems are standard, and grey water is dispersed well away from streams.

  4. 04

    Waste handling

Waste is segregated on site, burnables, recyclables and non-degradables, and carried down to the nearest managed disposal point. Nothing is buried or burned in the high valleys.

  5. 05

    After the trip

Each departure is reviewed against our sustainability checklist, guest feedback is logged, and findings feed into the next season's Travelife reporting cycle.

Social Policy

The people who carry the trip come first.

Fair wages, insurance, load limits and proper shelter for every porter, cook and guide on our payroll, written down, audited, and non-negotiable.

01

Fair pay & paid overtime

Wages meet or exceed national standards, overtime is compensated, and payment is never delayed at the end of a trip.

02

Medical insurance & welfare

Field staff and porters are insured and equipped; illness or injury on a trip is our cost, never theirs.

03

Women in mountain tourism

We actively recruit women guides and office staff, and buy from women-led businesses, from Hunza apricot growers to Baltistan textile workshops.

04

No discrimination, no child labour

Hiring is on ability alone. We do not employ minors, and we expect the same standard from every supplier we work with.

05

Cultural respect

Guests are briefed on dress, photography and etiquette before arrival, so visits to villages, mosques and homes are welcome rather than intrusive.

06

Community reinvestment

A share of every booking funds school, clean-water and trail-maintenance projects in the valleys we operate in.

Certifications

Independently verified.

Travelife Partner

Independently audited certification for responsible tourism management, verifying our environmental, labour, and guest-welfare practices.

GSTC Aligned

Operations follow the Global Sustainable Tourism Council criteria across four pillars, sustainable management, socio-economic, cultural, and environmental impact.

Leave No Trace Pakistan

Founding operator member, we train every field team in the seven Leave No Trace principles before each season.

"We would rather run fewer trips, properly, than more trips at the cost of the valleys and the people who make them possible."
