Company Story

Because the mountains deserve better.

Beyond The Valley was founded on a simple conviction: Pakistan's Karakoram is one of the most extraordinary mountain landscapes on earth, and the people who live there deserve a tourism model that protects what makes it extraordinary.

Beyond the Valley started in Nangma Valley in 2022. We went in as trekkers, found a valley with no formal tourism and a community willing to build something with us, and formed the company around that. In 2025 the New York Times named Nangma among its 52 Places to Go. Yet our headquarters remain the same: the villages, glaciers and valleys of Baltistan and Hunza.

Every route we design is a collaboration with local communities. Every camp is staffed by people who grew up beneath these peaks. And every journey is measured by a single question: did we leave the mountains, and their people, better than we found them?

Our Values

Five principles we never trade away.

  1. 01

    Safety Above Profit

No summit, schedule or booking is worth a risk to a guest, guide or porter. If conditions say turn around, we turn around.

  2. 02

    Authenticity

Real valleys, real families, real food, journeys built with the communities who live in these mountains, not staged around them.

  3. 03

    Community Benefit

Local guides, local porters, local suppliers, so the value of every journey stays in Gilgit-Baltistan.

  4. 04

    Environment Stewardship

Leave-no-trace camping, waste carried out, and active conservation of the fragile high-altitude landscapes we travel through.

  5. 05

    Operational Excellence

Meticulous planning, verified logistics and precise execution, from the first enquiry to the last transfer.

Our Social Environment

We are part of the communities we travel through.

We at BTV realise that we are an integral part of the communities that we operate in, and that it is our responsibility to ensure the sustainability and overall betterment of those communities.

  • 01

We identify and assess our contributions and impacts on social and cultural change in the areas where we operate, and develop appropriate strategies to respect the rights and cultures of local communities.

  • 02

We are committed to respecting all human rights wherever we operate.

  • 03

We aim to develop strong relationships with our suppliers and to support them in their growth and development.

  • 04

We are committed to providing our customers with quality services, ensuring that all customer requirements are collected and met wherever reasonably possible.

Corporate Social Responsibility

A portion of every journey goes back to the mountains.

Every departure funds partner projects in the valleys that host our guests. In 2025 that was fifteen projects across Baltistan, Hunza and Gilgit, each one owned and run by the community it serves.

We publish an annual community impact report and welcome guest audits of any project we support.

Handicraft Shop, Daltir

Craft training and a dedicated outlet in the Thallay Valley so the women of Daltir sell their own Balti caps and handicrafts under their own name.

Yugo Local Baskets

With the Yugo Welfare Organization: a weatherproof shelter and marketing help for the village elders who gather to weave traditional baskets.

Balti Cuisine, Skardu

Support for Ms. Kaneez Fatima's home kitchen, founded in 2022, and training for local women to carry the traditional Balti menus forward.

Korga Carpet Centre

Growth support for a women-owned carpet centre in Gulmit, Hunza, weaving with local sheep and yak wool.

Khanabad Youth Garden

Over 45,000 trees planted by local youth in Hunza, working towards 100,000 trees within three years.

Fifteen Partner Projects

Fifteen community projects across five regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, from Nasirabad home food to the Old House Café in Gulmit.
